Program Purpose

The Clinical Supervision Program is designed to support licensed and pre-licensed social workers in strengthening their clinical skills, ethical practice, and professional identity. This structured 2-year supervision pathway provides guided mentorship, case consultation, and professional development to ensure supervisees grow into confident, competent, and ethically grounded practitioners.

Program Objectives

By the end of the 2-year supervision program, supervisees will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate advanced clinical assessment and treatment planning skills.

  2. Apply ethical decision-making frameworks in complex cases.

  3. Strengthen diagnostic formulation and intervention strategies.

  4. Integrate evidence-based practices into clinical work.

  5. Develop cultural humility and trauma-informed care approaches.

  6. Build professional confidence and a clear clinical identity.

  7. Prepare for independent licensure (if applicable).

Program Duration

Total Length: 24 Months (2 Years)

  • Ongoing enrollment (based on availability)

  • Structured progression from foundational to advanced clinical practice

  • Completion certificate provided upon fulfilling all supervision requirements

Workload & Commitment

Monthly Requirements:

  • 4 hours of supervision per month

    • 4 hours of individual supervision or

    • 4 hours of group supervision

  • Case presentations (minimum once per quarter)

  • Reflective practice journal submissions (monthly)

  • Ethics case review participation (quarterly)

  • Professional development workshop (bi-annual)

Total Estimated Hours Over 2 Years:
Approximately 96 supervision hours

Additional independent reading and case preparation are expected outside supervision sessions.

Year 1: Foundations of Clinical Practice

Quarter 1–2

  • Role of the clinical social worker

  • Supervision expectations & goal setting

  • Ethical standards and documentation

  • Case conceptualization basics

Quarter 3–4

  • Assessment and diagnosis

  • Treatment planning

  • Trauma-informed care principles

  • Cultural competency in practice

Focus: Skill-building, structured guidance, strengthening clinical foundations

Year 2: Advanced Practice & Professional Identity

Quarter 5–6

  • Complex cases & differential diagnosis

  • Managing risk & crisis intervention

  • Countertransference & use of self

  • Burnout prevention & self-care

Quarter 7–8

  • Advanced interventions

  • Leadership & consultation skills

  • Private practice readiness (if applicable)

  • Licensure preparation (if applicable)

Focus: Clinical independence, confidence, and professional growth

Evaluation & Progress Monitoring

  • Bi-annual performance review

  • Individual development plan (IDP) tracking

  • Feedback from supervisor

  • Self-assessment reflections
